The Regional Planning Department addresses a wide range of land use, housing, community development, natural resource, transportation, and environmental issues impacting the municipalities of northern Maine.
It is the goal of the Department to preserve and enhance a lifestyle and quality of life in a way that will facilitate sustainable development for the communities of northern Maine while maximizing potentials and minimizing conflicts with land uses, natural resources, and the environment.
This includes the desire for healthy, active communities whose residents respect the need for sensible land use, good jobs, sustainable economic growth, safe efficient roadways, and sound waste management options.
Also, there is a need to foster stewardship of the natural resources (soil, water, and air) and to be respectful of the diverse natural beauty existing throughout northern Maine. This will enhance and protect vital natural resources and sensitive areas for their scenic, recreational, and tourism value and as a habitat for fish, waterfowl, and wildlife.
